• The government of Uttar Pradesh intends to produce ethanol and power from biomass or agricultural waste. In thermal power plants, biomass will be transformed into pellets using a procedure known as extrusion, which will save costs and minimize emissions.
  • In Uttar Pradesh, there is a potential market for agricultural waste worth Rs 50,000 crore a year. Approximately 100 metric tons of coal are needed to generate 7,000 megawatts of electricity. If biomass fuel could replace even 10% of the current coal consumption, the exchequer would save Rs 5,000 crore.
