- The Global Environment Facility (GEF) has launched a $1.4 billion fund to support sustainable projects in 88 countries, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
- India’s bioenergy sector is one of the beneficiaries of the fund, with a project to produce solid biofuels from agricultural waste and prevent stubble burning, a major source of air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
