India's Ethanol Production Gradually Shifts from Sugar to Maize and Rice - BioBiz
  1. India’s ethanol production from food grains like maize and rice has increased from 37.4% to 51% in the current year. Total ethanol production till June 9 was 357.12 crore liters, with 181.38 crore liters from grains and 175.74 crore liters from sugar.
  2. Maize contributed 110.82 crore liters, with the rest from damaged foodgrain and surplus rice.
  3. The shift aims to reduce the reliance on water-intensive sugarcane. India’s goal is to achieve E20 petrol (20% ethanol blend) by 2025-26.
