Description The extractives and chemical composition of hybrid aspen bark allow it to be used in several applications in the chemical industry. In the doctoral dissertation of Pasi Korkalo, who is a researcher at the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) and a doctoral student at the University of Oulu's Sustainable Chemistry unit, the chemical composition of the bark biomass of hybrid aspen was studied, pesticide chemicals were produced from the bark's hemicellulose.
Pathway Description: First, the bark is collected and then subjected to hot water extraction to separate the raw material for further use . After separating the extractives from the bark, the extraction residue was further utilized by torrefication.
