Description

Embrapa's innovative project explores the use of guava pulp agroindustry waste as a sustainable ingredient in tambaqui fish feed. The initiative aims to reduce waste and promote a circular economy in the agroindustry sector, while also providing a cost-effective and nutritious feed alternative for tambaqui farming. By upcycling guava pulp waste, the project offers a promising solution for minimizing environmental impacts and enhancing the sustainability of aquaculture practices.

Pathway Description:

The conversion process of guava pulp agroindustry waste to tambaqui feed involves collecting the guava residue from agroindustries, followed by drying and grinding it to a powder form. This powder is then incorporated into the feed formula to replace up to 75% of corn in the diet of young tambaqui. The feed is formulated to meet the nutritional needs of the fish, ensuring a balance of fiber and other nutrients for optimal growth. The resulting feed is tested for acceptability and performance in tambaqui.
