Application

  • Pet food: Torula yeast protein (SylPro) is being evaluated as a sustainable, allergen-free ingredient for pet food formulations.
  • Aquaculture and livestock feed: The protein has shown promising results in fish feeding trials and may expand to other animal feed applications.

Description

Arbiom is developing a novel pet food protein using torula yeast (Cyberlindnera jadinii) to digest wood residues from the timber industry. This sustainable protein, called SylPro, has shown promising results in aquaculture trials and is being evaluated for broader use, including pet food. The yeast offers several advantages: it's allergen-free, provides essential amino acids, and benefits digestive health, while also being a renewable and environmentally friendly resource.

Pathway Description:

Arbiom's process involves using torula yeast (Cyberlindnera jadinii) to digest wood residues from the timber industry. The yeast ferments the biomass, converting it into a high-protein product. This protein, known as SylPro, is then processed and used as an ingredient in animal feed, including for pet food and aquaculture. The process is sustainable, utilizing waste wood and avoiding competition with food crops.
