Description

Locus Ingredients is developing sustainable palm oil alternatives through a fermentation-based process, utilizing microorganisms to produce identical or similar molecules found in palm oil, offering a more environmentally friendly option for the cosmetics industry.

Pathway Description:

The process used in this project involves fermentation-based production of biosurfactants. Locus Ingredients employs bioinformatics and modular fermentation technology to naturally produce glycolipid-class sophorolipids using renewable raw materials like non-GMO sugars and fatty acids. This low-energy process is environmentally friendly, avoids harmful byproducts, and enables cost-effective, large-scale production of sustainable surfactants. The resulting biosurfactants are multifunctional, high-performance alternatives to palm oil-derived ingredients.
