Application
Description This study explores the development of a novel, sustainable, and cost-effective method for producing carbon fibers from lignin, a renewable resource . The researchers investigated the use of lignin as a precursor for carbon fiber production, which could potentially replace traditional petroleum-based materials. The project aimed to optimize the processing conditions and characterization of the resulting carbon fibers, paving the way for the development of sustainable and renewable carbon fiber materials.
Pathway Description: The conventional manufacture of CFs from a given isolated industrial lignin mainly involves five successive processing steps: (i) purification and/or modification, (ii) spinning into lignin fibers, (iii) oxidative thermostabilization, (iv) carbonization, and (v) post-treatment.
