  • Natural cleaning agent: Mikan peels can be used to clean kitchen surfaces by removing grease and grime.
  • Health and wellness: Mikan peels are used to make tea (chimpicha) and enhance baths (chimpiyu) for relaxation and skin benefits.

Description

This project explores creative ways to reuse mikan (mandarin orange) peels, an eco-friendly practice in Japan. The peels are dried and repurposed for various uses, including as a natural kitchen cleaner, an ingredient for chimpicha (mikan peel tea), and as part of a soothing chimpi bath. The project highlights the health benefits and sustainability of utilizing citrus peels instead of discarding them. The initiative reflects a focus on maximizing natural resources and reducing waste.

Pathway Description:

The project involves drying mikan peels in sunlight for about two weeks, using them as a natural cleaning tool for kitchen surfaces, grinding the dried peels to make chimpicha (mikan peel tea), and creating a chimpiyu (mikan peel bath) by placing the dried peels in a mesh pouch in hot water for a citrus-scented soak.
