Mango
Seed/Kernels
Application
Description The project focuses on producing biodiesel from mango seed oil through a transesterification process. Mango seed oil, a sustainable and underutilized resource, is extracted, converted to biodiesel, and analyzed for its physical and combustion properties. The biodiesel's characteristics, such as density, heating value, and thermal efficiency, were tested and compared to conventional diesel. The results demonstrate that mango seed oil biodiesel is an eco-friendly alternative fuel, aligning with international standards and suitable for diesel engine applications.
Pathway Description: The project used the transesterification process to convert mango seed oil into biodiesel. The mango seeds were collected, dried, and the oil was extracted using a Soxhlet solvent extraction method. The extracted oil was reacted with methanol and potassium hydroxide (KOH) as a catalyst at 60°C to produce biodiesel. The resulting biodiesel was then purified and analyzed for its physical and combustion properties to ensure suitability for diesel engines.
