Application
Description Bpacks is a sustainable packaging startup that creates biodegradable bioplastics from bark, used coffee grounds, and other bio-based materials. Their process turns waste materials into rigid packaging for products like fresh produce, meat, and cosmetics. The resulting packaging is 100% bio-based, compostable, and can be produced using existing plastic manufacturing equipment. Bpacks aims to offer an eco-friendly alternative to petroleum-based plastics while extending shelf life for certain products.
Pathway Description: The process used in the Bpacks project involves compounding bark from timber production, used coffee grounds, and other bio-based materials. These materials are then processed into pellets or sheets, which are molded into biodegradable packaging products using injection molding or thermoforming. The production process is solvent-free and integrates seamlessly with existing plastic production equipment. The final product is biodegradable, compostable, and can be used for packaging fresh produce, meats, and cosmetics.
