Application

  • Textile Industry: Used in clothing, especially for garments requiring softness, moisture absorption, and comfort, such as underwear and sportswear.
  • Sustainable Materials: Applied in non-wovens, disposable wipes, and eco-friendly textiles by reducing reliance on petrochemical fibers.

Description

This project focuses on the growing demand for cellulosic fibers, derived from natural cellulose, as sustainable alternatives to petrochemical-based fibers. With applications in textiles, non-wovens, and clothing, these fibers, including viscose and lyocell, offer properties like softness, water absorption, and environmental benefits. The project explores the key production processes, such as viscose and lyocell, and emphasizes recycling and innovation to increase sustainability in the fiber industry.

Pathway Description:

The project utilizes two main processes: the Viscose process, which dissolves wood pulp in chemicals to create a viscous solution that is spun into fibers, and the Lyocell process, which uses N-methylmorpholine N-oxide as a solvent for cellulose, offering a more environmentally friendly method with minimal waste.
