Application
Description The project proposes a new method called consolidated bio-saccharification (CBS) for efficiently converting lignocellulosic biomass into fermentable sugars. This method uses whole-cell biocatalysts for lignocellulose deconstruction and separates the fermentation process. CBS aims to reduce enzyme production costs and simplify operational processes for biofuel and biochemical production. The team is currently piloting CBS to demonstrate its industrial potential and scalability.
Pathway Description: The process used in this project is called Consolidated Bio-Saccharification (CBS). It employs whole-cell biocatalysts to directly deconstruct lignocellulosic biomass into fermentable sugars. This method separates the saccharification and fermentation processes, streamlining operations and reducing enzyme production costs. CBS aims to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of converting lignocellulose into biofuels and biochemicals.
