Application
Description Cosmetochem International AG developed Citrolumine 8, a skin-brightening active derived from citrus bioflavonoids present in grape and bitter orange peels encapsulated in liposomes. The formulation contains key flavonoids like naringin and hesperidin, which offer antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. In clinical studies, it demonstrated a concentration-dependent inhibition of tyrosinase, resulting in skin lightening and improved luminosity. The active is recommended for use in anti-aging products to enhance skin tone and radiance.
Pathway Description: The process begins by chemically extracting bioflavonoids from citrus peels, such as grapefruit and bitter orange, to obtain citroflavonoids. These bioflavonoids are then encapsulated in liposomes to enhance their stability and effectiveness. The active, Citrolumine 8, is formulated by emulsifying it below 40°C with careful mixing and specific ingredient restrictions. Finally, the formulation is tested for skin brightening benefits and stored at 2–8°C to maintain its efficacy.
