- Government-run power plants in Punjab are purchasing biomass pellets for blending with coal to manage paddy crop residue.
- Tenders have been issued to procure 18,000 metric tonnes (MT) of pellets, with plans to purchase 2.5 lakh MT more. However, the use of stubble pellets has increased the per unit cost of electricity production by 12 to 14 paise.
