Biomass Usage at TATA Steel’s Ferro-Chrome Plant in India

• Tata Steel tested carbon-neutral biomass charcoal at its Athagarh ferro-chrome plant, replacing coke to reduce emissions.
• The trial, using 5% biomass, could reduce CO2 emissions by 6%, with further trials and potential charcoal imports being considered.
• Tata Steel is also collaborating with BHP on low-carbon steel production.
