LanzaJet holds grand opening in Georgia for world’s 1st ethanol-to-SAF facility

  • LanzaJet Freedom Pines Fuels represents one of the most promising SAF technologies. It will produce 10 million gallons of SAF and renewable diesel per year from low-carbon, sustainable, ethanol that meets the global standards.
  • It uses a one-of-a-kind Alcohol-to-Jet (ATJ) technology to convert sustainably sourced ethanol to Aviation fuels. The government has approved to blend up to 50% LanzaJet SAF with conventional Jet A aviation fuel. Work is underway to allow for approval of up to 100% LanzaJet SAF.
  • The Lanza Tech, the parent company of LanzaJet, use advanced biochemically engineered fermentation processes to produce ethanol from various feedstocks. It provides a ethical sourcing for ethanol.

Other companies which use Alcohol-to-jet technology:

  • Honeywell – corn-based, cellulosic, or sugar-based ethanol into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
  • Byogy Renewables – one of the only companies that can produce complete replacement fuels, including synthetic bio-aromatics (BTX). Byogy uses a proprietary catalyst system to convert ethanol into jet fuel or diesel.
  • Swedish Biofuels – developed and patented the original ATJ technology for the production of fully formulated sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

ATJ fuels are a promising alternative to conventional fossil-based jet fuels, as they have lower carbon footprint and higher compatibility with existing aircraft engines and infrastructure.

According to a market research report, the global ATJ market size is projected to cross USD 9 billion by the end of 2035, growing at a CAGR of 19% during the forecast period, i.e., 2023 – 2035.

According to a thorough analysis, the ATJ method, which uses wheat grain as feedstock, is the most cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to create bio jet fuel. Lignocellulosic residues are utilized to improve manufacturing feasibility.

People who are thinking about getting into this industry should take advantage of this high yeilding opportunity.
