1. Balrampur Chini Mills in Kolkata, India, is venturing into poly lactic acid (PLA) manufacturing with a new fully integrated facility, marking the establishment of India’s first industrial bioplastic plant.
  2. The PLA venture is aligned with India’s sustainability goals to combat climate change, with an estimated investment of 247 million EUR over around 2.5 years to achieve net zero emissions by 2070.
  3. The state-of-the-art PLA factory will produce PLA and other bioplastics from sugar as raw material, transitioning towards circular and regenerative manufacturing principles and replacing single-use plastic consumption in India.
