- The use of fermented organic manure can significantly reduce India’s fertilizer import costs by at least $1.5 billion, addressing the country’s reliance on foreign fertilizer.
- India currently produces 1 million metric tonnes of this manure annually, with plans to increase to 7 million tonnes through the development of new plants, potentially benefiting states like Rajasthan.
- Additionally, compressed biogas (CBG), which can be derived from this manure, offers a viable path for India to meet its cleaner energy targets, contributing to its renewable energy goals for 2030.
- The Indian Biogas Association (IBA) is advocating for increased adoption of fermented organic manure, particularly by state-owned fertilizer companies such as IFFCO, KRIBHCO, and NFL. This would promote a more sustainable and cost-effective fertilizer market.
