- Addressing the 12th ‘CII Bioenergy Summit 2024’ in the national capital, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari said:
- Research on 15% ethanol blending in diesel is progressing as part of India’s strategy to reduce fossil fuel dependency.
- Ethanol blending in petrol rose from 1.53% in 2014 to 15% in 2024, with a target of 20% by 2025.
- Indian Oil will establish 400 ethanol pumps across key states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
- Flex-engine cars and ethanol-powered bikes are being developed by automakers, awaiting infrastructure readiness.
- Waste-to-energy projects using rice straw for bio-CNG have been successful, with over 40 operational plants.
